Account, sync & Pro

What an account adds, and how Pro sync works.

Hex needs a free account, on your Mac and on the web. Your chats and files stay on your Mac unless you turn on Pro sync. An account gives you:

  • A free trial of Hex Agent, Hex's cloud model.
  • The web app, in any browser, with Hex Agent or your own model provider API key.
  • With Pro: Hex Agent every month, cloud sync of your chats, projects and settings across your Macs and the web app, and unlimited use of the web app.

The first time you open Hex, it asks you to sign in or create an account. If you sign out later, Hex asks again before you can chat.

  • Sign in with your browser (recommended): Hex opens the website, where you sign in or create an account, with Google, GitHub, an email link or a password. Choose Continue to Hex for Mac, allow your browser to open Hex, and it's signed in.
  • Sign in with email here: enter your email and Hex sends a sign-in link; open it on this Mac. Accounts with a password can use it instead.

Signing in with your browser only works when you started it from Hex on the same Mac, so nobody else can sign your app in to their account.

Pro

Pro is $12 a month or $120 a year. Upgrade from Settings → Billing or Pricing. Payments are handled by Stripe; manage or cancel from Billing at any time, and you keep Pro until the end of the period you paid for.

When you're on Pro and signed in, Hex syncs automatically when it opens, every couple of minutes and when you return to it. Sync now in Settings → Account syncs immediately. On Free, your chats stay on your Mac only.

If you downgrade, nothing is deleted: sync stops and your chats stay on your Mac.
