Plain-language terms for using Hex. Please read them. They explain what you can expect from us, and what we expect from you.

These terms apply to Hex for Mac, the Hex web app and this website (together, "Hex"), provided by the Hex team ("we"). By using Hex you agree to them.
Using Hex
You may use Hex for personal and commercial work. Don't use it to break the law, to harm others, to attack or overload systems, or to try to get around plan limits or security.
The agent acts for you
Hex is an AI agent that can read and change files, run commands, use websites and control simulators on your computer, within the permissions you set. You're responsible for:
- the tasks you give it, and the permissions and modes you choose;
- reviewing its work before you rely on it; AI output can be wrong;
- keeping backups of important data. Hex saves file versions it changes so you can undo them, but that isn't a backup.
Models and third-party services
Built-in models are open models created by third parties and are subject to their own licenses. Connectors, web search and websites you use through Hex are provided by others under their own terms. In the web app, the model provider you choose processes your messages under its terms, using your API key.
Hex Agent
Hex Agent is Hex's cloud model. Hex chooses, and may change, the AI model and provider behind it.
- Free trial. One per person, for the number of days shown when you start it, with a daily allowance. Creating extra accounts to get more trials isn't allowed.
- Pro allowance. Pro includes a monthly Hex Agent allowance with a daily cap. Unused allowance doesn't carry over. When it's used up, Hex Agent pauses until it resets; built-in models keep working.
- Fair use. Don't use Hex Agent to resell access, to run it as an API for other services, or to get around its allowance. We may limit or suspend Hex Agent for an account that does.
Accounts
Hex needs a free account, one per person. Keep your sign-in secure. You're responsible for activity on your account. We may suspend accounts that break these terms.
Hex Pro
- Pro is billed in advance, monthly or yearly, through Stripe. Prices are shown on Pricing, and taxes may apply.
- Free trial. New subscribers can try Pro free for 7 days, once per account, without a card. Add a card before it ends to keep Pro; otherwise it ends and you're back on Free.
- Pro renews automatically until you cancel. Cancel any time from Billing; you keep Pro until the end of the period you've paid for.
- If you think you were charged by mistake, email us and we'll look into it.
- We may change prices for future billing periods and will tell you before a change applies to you.
Your content
Your files, chats and projects are yours. We only use them to provide Hex to you, for example to sync them if you're on Pro.
Availability and changes
We work to keep Hex reliable but can't promise it will always be available or error-free. We may change or discontinue features. The desktop app keeps working on your Mac without our servers, except for sync and account features.
Disclaimer
Hex is provided "as is", without warranties of any kind, to the extent the law allows.
Limitation of liability
To the extent the law allows, we aren't liable for indirect or consequential losses, or for loss of data, resulting from your use of Hex. Our total liability is limited to what you paid us for Hex in the 12 months before the claim.
Changes to these terms
We'll update the date above when these terms change and tell account holders about significant changes by email.
