Privacy & your data

Where your data lives, and how to export or delete it.

  • Models run on your Mac. With built-in models your prompts, files and code aren't sent to a model provider.
  • Chats and projects are stored on your Mac, in Hex's data folder. Settings → Privacy → Show in Finder opens it.
  • Secrets (connector tokens, keys) are encrypted with the macOS Keychain.
  • Cloud sync is off unless you're on Pro and signed in.
  • The agent can't read or change Hex's own data folder.

Export

Settings → Privacy → Export chats saves every chat and its messages as one JSON file. To save a single chat as Markdown, type /export in it.

Recently deleted

Deleting a chat moves it to Settings → Privacy → Recently deleted, where you can restore it for 30 days. After that, or when you empty it, it's gone for good.

Remove Hex completely

Quit Hex, move it from Applications to the Trash, and delete ~/Library/Application Support/Hex. Downloaded models are stored inside that folder too.
